Inkwell...Oriental/Chinese...
«

Bought this some years back. I am assuming it is an inkwell. Most likely missing the lid. Still has ink stains on the inside. Did manage to clean some of it out but gave up on the rest. I am assuming applied enamel. A fair bit is missing from this piece unfortunately. Has a signature on the bottom. Any help would be appreciated for id or more info?

Hi there....they look enameled to me, as what I know. I wonder if anyone can make out the marks. I am terrible at these marks, *I* have such a hard time with them....
....but have no fear, someone can do much better than me...

Thanks Keith. Ashame all that bloody ink is in it. Do you think it is oldish? Can't get a better pic of the signature. It blends in at parts.

Could you perhaps get a closeup of the mark? If your camera has a Macro setting (usually indicated by a little flower symbol) switch it to that and then see if you can get in closer to get a clearer shot... usually about 12" / 30cm works for Macro.

I have done the macro and have attached above. Unfortunately the marking isn't the best. I might try with my other camera but doubt it will improve to be honest

The mark is a typical rubber stamp factory mark. This is quite a recent piece, probably 1970s-80s. As Keith said, the photo of the mark is too blurred to make out - also it is upside down...

Not worth listing on ebay to sell then. Might just drop it into the bin me thinks since the enamaling is coming of
Thanks for you information everyone. I think I will stick to glass from now on. I do better with that. Sometimes

It's all a learning curve, Kane.
And at least we have marks on much of the pottery we find.
