Where is this pottery jug from?
« on: April 29, 2011, 05:54:53 PM »
Here's a lovely old studio pottery jug but it has caused some differences of opinion.

I think it is from Devon around 1900 - 1920.

Will Axton the auctioneer valuer on Flog It! thinks it is/may be faience from the west coast of Europe (that's anywhere from Brittany to Portugal!) and may be as old as 1860.

What do the board members think? I can add more pictures if you need them.

I haven't a clue Roy. It's a lovely jug but way out of my comfort zone... hopefully someone might know though.
Cheers!

Interesting but the body is definitely not stoneware and the body is actually cream coloured under the glaze.  :thd:

I spent over 5 years in Canada in the late 60s/early 70s. Toronto area.

Here is a more modern piece of studio pottery with a red (terracotta) body. Signed ... but not recognised
