Pottery Cat Candlestick
« on: August 02, 2011, 09:42:32 PM »
Hi everyone,
I have a pottery cat candlestick, which i think is stoneware, as it feel quite heavy. Hollow inside and stamped with a name which looks like Kate or Kade and another word. Not sure if this is quite an old item, or just made to look old??
Hopefully someone will recognize it!
Thanks
Vickie

I think your words say MADE IN UK... there seems to be two stamps saying the same thing - one horizontal, and another vertical at the left of the horizontal one...
Cheers!

Usually when something is marked 'made in UK' it is from one of the smaller islands around Britain but for this i am not so sure. I must say i've never seen anything quite like it and i love it. It appears to be hand molded which isn't often seen these days. I would actually show this to a museum or something and see what they say.

Its a beautiful item and I agree with tigerchips that it is possibly not a mainland piece. With the blue & white colouring, my first call would be a scottish studio?
