Help to ID mark - ??RST.POTTERY
« on: October 30, 2011, 10:00:29 AM »
Hi,

Has anyone got a piece with the full name on it?  Unfortunately, it's impressed too close to the base and part of the mark has not come out.  It looks very much like it ends in

         _ _ RST.POTTERY

Maybe _ ERST.POTTERY (or at a stretch _ ARST.POTTERY) with at least one letter in front.  There may be more letters in front, but they're missing completely.

All thoughts welcomed.

Thanks
Cat

Oooh that's a bit of a puzzle Cat. Can you add a picture of the whole thing please as someone may recognise the style. Also, if you can do a shot showing the start where the lettering fades away it might be helpful. Did you find it in the UK or elsewhere?
Cheers!

Hello Anne,

I'm fairly sure it's British - I bought it on the south coast............mind you I bought a lovely tankard the other day and when I got the magnifying glass on it it said MADE IN GREECE lol...........I really need new glasses!

Pictures attached, although I couldn't improve on the one of the mark as I had included all of it already.

I'm supposed to be writing an essay but I would much rather be investigating my pots or glass..........in fact I'd even rather be doing housework and that's saying something!!

Hi Cat -- try putting some white talc powder on your finger, and dusting across it.  See if you can read it better -- and post some pics for us here too.

Might help!!  Worth a shot!   ;)

Cat, that's a nice looking mug! But I'm still none the wiser even with your other mark pic...  we'll keep searching though! :)
Cheers!

It might have been helpful if I'd mentioned it's a 6.5" high jug 5" diameter bottom excluding handle, and the top is slightly crimped rather than entirely round - although that was difficult to capture in the picture.

I will try and get a better shot of the name some time but, for now, I really should be hitting the books........... I can hardly wait for next year when the course ends and I can get my life back!
