Topic: Burslem England 'Deneigh' Plate

Hi, got this for $2.00 at sale.  I liked the colors of it, but can't find the age of it, or more about it.

Also I found some things similar, and they were called *Imari*.  What exactly is that, and is this Imari?  How does one define Imari  in layman terms?

Anyone know the age, or if any value?  Does have a hole in in, so I assume it was part of a two piece serving tray, and most likely one got broke.....but I still like it.

It may just have had a conical metal stand or a metal handle. You might be able to find something that would look OK. Your plate was made in Burslem, Staffordshire (about 35 miles southeast of here, remember 35 miles is quite a long way in UK terms).

Your plate was made by Wood & Sons and the mark is for 1931+, so probably 1930s. The design is Deneigh, which is apparently a girls' name.

True Imari was made in Japan (but even then it is a European term), but I think the term is often (mis)used for china with a Japanese style design on it.

Yeah, you could be right.  It may have not been a 2-tier serving tray but rather just a single serving dish ( DUH to ME)....for not also thinking that.

So it is still fairly old (I like that..)

I like the dark colors, and the hint of Japanese look to it. Thanks as always.

Very much a 1930s style that for sure, as Christine says, Rose.  I'd say it looks to be hand-painted as well.  Very nice find!

I will have to take a closer look to see (if) hand-painted....or if a transfer.  I will yet you know asap

I like the dark colors, and I guess 1930's era is old....... ....at least a bit before me.....lol.....like 30 years.
