Can anyone refresh my memory - Viking pin dish
« on: April 30, 2010, 07:28:25 PM »
Can anyone help please?  I've had this little stoneware pin dish for a few years, and at one time discovered, with help, what the mark was on the back.  If memory serves me well  :-\   it was Scandinavian, but I can't remember which country.  Also, the name place is shown on the impressed mark, but its so distinct I can't make it out, and I've forgotten too!  I did have a little sticky label on the back at one time with the info, but wouldn't you know it, that's gone too, just like my memory :ft:

Does anyone recognise it?

Jerry Harper doesn't ring any bells :hm:

You're quite right TC I have posted it here before when Jemma Harper was suggested, but its not where it was originally ID'd as being Scandi.   I think that would have been on ebay's pottery board, but I haven't been able to locate the posting, and I don't visit the board these days, as I like it here much better ;D  I remember at the time, when it was ID'd, thinking, its pretty obvious when you know  :czy:  but it aint obvious to me any more :thd:

Thanks TC - you are absolutely spot on :kissy:  The mark on the ebay mug is identical, as well as the Viking decoration.  Goodness knows where I got the Scandi ID from ???  Perhaps I had another similar dish and got the two confused :ft:

Jerry Harper it is then ;D.  I googled 'Blacktoft' and was surprised to find that I virtually drive past it when visiting my daughter in Hull.  Its in a place called Blacktoft, which is near Goole in the East Riding of Yorkshire.  I don't know if the pottery is still there or not, but so far have been unable to find any current info. to say that it is.

That region has links with the Vikings, so its not surprising to see pottery reflecting that.
