Not a Clue? Out of my realm...This Pottery

Hi I bought this just recently.

it is 8 inches tall, and about 6 inches wide at the widest point,  Some one had wrote on the bottom on this pitcher " This will be Dawn's".  I am asuming whom owned this pitcher *wrote* the little note -- for her Estate.

To me - it has:
1).  Old look to it,
2).  Native looking (?)
3).  Hand worked

Please note it does have a chip in it -- is this useful to tell what it is made from, or how?  Anything else....what would one call this to even google it ???

Wonder IF this might be consider *tanware* from Pennsylvania, or if it could be consider even *stoneware* vintage in origin.

I am thinking maybe Redware, or might be something under Terra Cotta -- this LOOKS quite old to me....and not sure if Native, or just old, or primitive, Mexican....so how does one google for anything when they do not know where to begin.  I have been trying SO many things here...

Just me guessing here some more....I am having a monologue (and arguing)  here with myself    :24:

I watched the AR show tonight, and they were talking about some old Native pottery ( Pueblo Pottery ) and the item kinda reminded me of this piece here.....and old.  They were also talking about something called *ZUNI* pottery, which I am just gonna look up now to see what I can find.

Does Pueblo look like a possibility?  Anyone?  Just trying to get some leads to figure this out...

I haven't a clue Rose, this one's well out of my comfort zone so am no help to you at all, but am watching your journey with it with interest. :)

Lol.....gee, it WILL be a journey -- as I have no idea which way to turn, or which way to go....or of new made to look old, or just old.

If I had to guess -- I would lean towards Acoma Pottery and/or Santo-Domingo -- but that is just a guess.. :x-fingers:

This is a Mexican pot; don't remember exactly what province or what this style is called, but definitely Mexican, made of earthenware. The design seems very derivative of some Native American Pueblos, notably Acoma, Zia and Zuni but both the pottery and painting are cruder. The similarity is not surprising considering New Mexico (where most pueblos are) was once a part of Mexico. I have been collecting old Mexican pottery for over 20 years. There are many different types and styles that are associated with particular regions and periods. I have at least 3 pieces that are of this type. It's just a guess, but I would say this piece probably dates from the 1930's-40's.

Thanks for that info as I am hitting bottom trying to figure this item out.  I was getting to the point that i was thinking (?? ??)  :hb: that it might be even older than the 1900's -- and was thinking maybe 1880's or so, but that was just a guess.

So this is a Mexican pot.....

So at least I was kinda heading  :beer: in the right direction with some of My earlier guesses here - but was hard for me to decipher all the different types there are out there -- but I did mention some of the same types of names while looking around.  So I guess that was *MY Gut feeling*.....lol

I will keep looking around to see if I can find anything more given that new direction -- I wonder if it does have some value to it.
