Continental Vases cannot find makers mark
« on: August 07, 2012, 10:38:03 AM »
Hi
I have this pair of continental vases that I have been unable to trace the makers mark of a C over an R (or R over C) it also bears the pattern number 584. Does anyone know this maker?

many thanks
Nick

Beautiful vases!

Is it really a R and not a K under the C? Will you please check the other vase too?
Perhaps the mark would be a version of Karlsbad Porcelain Factory Carl Knoll:

Photo below is enlarged from yours.

I was thinking it looked more like a K as well but it's not easy to make out. They are beautiful vases!

Nick, what makes you think they're continental please?
Cheers!

I was just wondering if they might be William Kirkby?

He did at least one design with a similar theme:

I think you are absolutely right, Anne.

Three numbers, instead of four or five, is also not typical for german ceramics.
The link to ebay was broken, but here is another:

Hi
Thanks for the input, it could be a K not that clear on either due to glaze fill, I'll get my large illuminated magnifier lamp and look again.
To me the general style seemed more continental perhaps Dutch or Czech was my thinking. Also they are slip cast in 2 halves with a quite visible joint on either side if this helps, just didn't "feel" English if that makes sense?
