ID maker of this 18th or 19th century blue and white jug
« on: November 02, 2012, 11:40:30 AM »
I have tried to find the maker of this jug for months with no results, cannot find the same jug anywhere!

I has the look of a Miles Mason or even New Hall about it, but the blue (to me) appears to dark for Miles Mason, but the gilding is similar to both, but more so Miles Mason.

I think it is English probably from the late 18th or early 19th century.

The handle is very nice, I saw a similar looking crossover handle on a piece of Caughley in the past, but again, no match on this particular jug.

The interior, you can see the ribbing, where it was potted, which I have seen in early Lowestoft and Worcester tea pots.

The jug is 9.5cm tall approx diameter is 9cm
11cm length approx from handle to spout

I could be barking up the complete wrong tree, it might not even be English, but to me, it has an English feel.

Many thanks for any help with this jug, as it is very lovely and I would just like to know who made it, as it has had me stumped for months!

The jug looks chinese to me and late 18th century. The motif is handpainted and not printed.
But the gilding is perhaps english.

Thank you very much, I did wonder if it was Chinese in origin, but again my searches proved unsuccessful.
