Do you have any Davenport?

My mum bought 6 Davenport Botanical plates for £5.
I couldn't tell you how much they are worth, ebay only brings up one result.

Blue printed mark "DAVENPORT LONGPORT" in uppercase letters.

From what i can gather, this underglaze blue printed mark was used 1837-1860. My guess based on the pattern number (1580), is that it dates around 1837, but i could be wrong.

I read somewhere that the prince regent visited the factory, found that the quality of the porcelain was up there with Sevres, and ordered a whole batch from them. These plates are of lesser quality i think.

Ohhh TC those are lovely! I'd think your Mum has picked up a real bargain there whatever their age!

I had a look on replacements.com but they don't have this pattern listed at all: http://replacements.com/china/DAV.htm

I did find some listed on other auction sites as Davenport Botanicals but the are not quite like yours - the rims are different - here are some links so you can compare them:

http://www.sellingantiques.co.uk/278009/lovely-antique-19th-century-davenport-longport-botanical-floral-dessert-service/

I'm also thinking yours are not the Botanical series as such as they seem to just have one plant per plate, whereas yours have a collection of plants.

Godden gives the DAVENPORT LONGPORT printed mark as c.1815+

Cheers!

Thanks Anne. Floral plates it is then, the ones in the links have special marks on them. I also found this website on Davenport marks... http://homepage.ntlworld.com/charles.duckworth/index.html

Mark P13 is the one i think is on this plate.

You should have seen my face light up when i first saw them, Davenport for ?5, lol. She had no idea how old they were or who Davenport was.
